Inside Evelyn's London Residence — Vibrant Orbital Motifs Translated Into Mosaic

The project masterfully adapts "Venetian Chroma"—a design defined by its vibrant planetary spheres and sweeping cosmic trajectories—across four distinct architectural environments

“When I first saw ‘Venetian Chroma’ I knew a single feature wall wouldn’t do it justice. I wanted to deconstruct that incredible cosmic energy and let it flow organically across completely different spaces and levels of my home.”

For her London residence, Evelyn wanted to take a design she loved and experience it throughout her home.

Here is the story of how MEC Artworks collaborated with this client to translate a singular artistic concept across four distinct areas of her home.

Client Brief

The journey began when Evelyn, an avid art collector and interior design enthusiast based in London, reached out to MEC Artworks. Evelyn had fallen in love with Venetian Chroma, a signature design from our celebrated Lulu Collection, released in 2026.

Characterized by its dynamic, flowing cosmic energy, whimsical celestial bodies, and a vibrant palette of deep blues, warm terracotta orange, rich emerald greens, and soft peach tones, the design was originally conceptualized as a continuous mural.

Evelyn’s goal, however, was highly ambitious: she didn’t want the design isolated to a single feature wall. She wanted to deconstruct the design allowing its cosmic rhythm to flow organically across four completely different environments within her newly renovated property.

The Collaborative Design Process

Translating a fluid design into vastly different architectural shapes requires deep technical expertise and close collaboration.

Because Evelyn was based in London and our master artisans operate internationally, our design consultants utilized our comprehensive remote collaboration workflow to bridge the distance.

Our consultant worked closely with Evelyn over several video design workshops, isolating specific clusters of the motif, such as the bold blue trajectories or the warmer, circular terracotta planets, to match the emotional energy of each specific space.

Initial Sketches

Our team began by requesting the exact architectural CAD drawings and site dimensions of Evelyn’s residence.

Material Selection

High-resolution tile layouts and 3D renderings illustrated how the mosaic would look like with the material of choice.

The Translation

Since Evelyn was based in London and our master artisans operate internationally, our design consultants utilized our comprehensive remote collaboration workflow to bridge the distance. Our consultant worked closely with Evelyn over several video design workshops, isolating specific clusters of the motif, such as the bold blue trajectories or the warmer, circular terracotta planets, to match the emotional energy of each specific space.

For the primary bathroom, Evelyn wanted a completely unique experience. We wrapped the mosaic across three planes: the entire back feature wall, wrapping down perfectly over the face of the custom built-in bathtub, and spilling out across the entire bathroom floor. To showcase the vibrant movement of the mosaic, our consultant suggested finishing the side walls in a deep, vertical blue subway tile, matching the rich navy tones of the celestial swirls.

Coupled with a geometric gold chandelier hung from a matching deep blue ceiling, the space feels like stepping directly into a cosmic painting. In the smaller powder room, the design was adapted to act as an artistic backdrop to a stunning, organic-edged marble vanity.

Here, the swirling shapes of the mosaic gracefully frame a custom, fire-treated copper mirror and brass fixtures. Our design consultants carefully positioned the vibrant clusters of the mosaic so they would peek out perfectly around the custom framing, ensuring the intricate hand-cut nature of the tesserae perfectly mirrors the natural veining of the marble counter.

Moving into the transition spaces, Evelyn wanted to break away from traditional rectangular flooring. MEC Artworks engineered a custom-shaped, organic curved mosaic floor inlay that mimics a flowing river of color.  The true crowning jewel of the project is the grand staircase. Evelyn’s home features a sweeping, curved plaster staircase. We mapped the largest, most dynamic sweeping curves to follow the natural architectural ascent of the wall.

“We engineered those sweeping planetary trajectories to adapt fluidly throughout the architecture, allowing the vibrant curves to wrap seamlessly over the custom bathtub planes before climbing the grand staircase”

This is just one expression of a much larger creative universe. In this blog, you can explore the complete Lulu Collection—where we break down the design inspiration behind each piece and showcase all 19 products that define the series.

The following design is from the same collection, it features a chinoiserie-style theme.

Remote Installation & Execution Excellence

“Moving through the house now feels like following a living narrative”

— Evelyn, London

One of the biggest concerns for high-end residential clients managing projects remotely is the installation phase. A beautiful mosaic layout means nothing if it isn’t installed with flawless precision. To ensure Evelyn’s local London contractors could execute this perfectly, MEC Artworks utilized our proprietary Grid-Mapping System:

1. The entire mosaic across all four spaces was assembled by hand in our studios on mesh sheets, cut into perfectly numbered, manageable sections.

2. We provided a highly detailed, color-coded installation manual specific to the residence’s layouts.

3. Every sheet corresponded to a precise spot on the floor or wall grid.

Throughout the installation process, our dedicated project managers provided live video support to the tiling team in London, ensuring that grout lines were perfectly minimized and the transitions between planet were absolutely seamless.

FAQs

A multi-room mosaic installation is when a single design concept is not confined to one surface, but instead distributed across different architectural spaces within a home. In luxury residential projects like The Astral Flux, this means the artwork is intentionally divided and reinterpreted for each room—rather than repeated.

For example, one version of the design may appear as an immersive full-wrap bathroom installation, while another becomes a more restrained powder room feature, and another transforms into a flowing floor inlay or staircase ascent. The key idea is continuity of visual language, not duplication of pattern.

This approach is especially relevant in high-end London homes where interiors are often composed of distinct, carefully designed rooms rather than open-plan repetition.

Designing a mosaic across multiple rooms starts with treating the entire home as one continuous canvas rather than separate spaces. We begin by studying architectural drawings and understanding how movement flows through the property—where people enter, pause, turn, and transition between levels.

This design was broken into structural elements such as movement paths, dense focal clusters, and softer transition fields. These elements were then assigned to different spaces based on their function. For instance, enclosed rooms like bathrooms support immersive compositions, while transitional areas like staircases and corridors are better suited to directional flow.

The goal is not to place the same artwork everywhere, but to let different “chapters” of the same design exist throughout the home.

Bathroom mosaics require a balance between visual impact and technical performance. Unlike dry areas of a home, bathrooms involve constant exposure to moisture, temperature changes, and reflective surfaces like mirrors, glass, and polished stone.

In this bathroom installation, the mosaic was applied across three connected planes: the feature wall, a custom-built bathtub front, and the floor. This creates a continuous visual field, but it also requires precise material planning to ensure durability and safety.

We typically use a combination of matte and gloss glass tesserae in wet areas. Matte surfaces help control slip resistance on floors, while gloss finishes enhance light reflection on walls. The result is a space that feels immersive without compromising functionality.

For UK-based installations where the design studio is not physically on site, the process is highly structured to ensure accuracy. Each mosaic is fabricated in pre-mapped mesh sections that correspond directly to architectural drawings.

For The Astral Flux, we created a full grid system for the London property, where every panel had a defined position across walls, floors, and curved surfaces. Local installers received detailed placement documentation, including sequencing guides and visual references.

During installation, we also provided live remote support, allowing real-time adjustments for alignment, especially at critical transition points like floor-to-wall junctions and curved staircase sections. This ensures the final result matches the original design intent exactly, even without on-site fabrication.
