Pool mosaics are a speciality of MEC Artworks, and we worked our magic on this one too. A glorious flame in hues of orange and gold set in a background of deeper hues to make the flame stand out even more.
Hand-cut iridescent glass was the perfect choice for this glass mosaic pool design, as it catches the light well and accentuates the hues in it.

A custom hand-cut glass mosaic pool floor with a bold abstract flame motif in black, orange, and gold, designed and commissioned with MEC Artworks.
As amazing as they look, blue is quite a standard option for pool mosaics. Clients often opt for blue as it is a natural choice considering the colour water mostly reflects.
However, this client wanted to do ‘something different’. They needed something that would stand out and add to the glamour of their pool.
The concept of a flame motif in pools is unique and somewhat unexplored.
Our design team came up with the initial design pattern, which was loved by the client. A few changes were requested in the background colour, which were duly made.
The final look of the abstract pool floor art was beautiful and unseen before. Our client wanted something different and exciting, and we are proud to say that MEC delivered to them exactly as they expected.
Inspiration Moodboard for the Flame Motif Mosaic
The keywords for this custom glass mosaic pool floor were ‘something different’. Far from the ordinary.
Our design team decided that blue was not going to be added to the colour palette. The next step was designing ‘something different’.
As water and fire are quite the opposite of each other, our designers came up with the idea of a flame in their initial mood boards. This was quite contrary to the usual sea life-inspired, geometric pattern or emblem mosaics that are usually chosen for pool mosaics.
The colour scheme for this commissioned glass mosaic pool floor varied a lot in the initial mood boards. Fluctuating from oranges to reds and then back to orange.
Design & Development
Initial Idea
Our client wanted something out of the ordinary. To fulfil this requirement, our design team came up with the unique idea of a ‘flame in the water’
Plan for the Final Layout
Our team then built upon the initial idea, adding a colour here and a motif there until the final look was somewhat that of lava cascading from a volcano or a dragon breathing fire!
Color Palette & Materials
The natural colours that came to mind for a fire motif are Gold and Orange. Later on, Maroon, Rust and other warm shades like Beige and Warm Whites, so that the shades could flow into each other seamlessly. Hand-cut glass was the choice of material for its tensile strength and iridescence.
Production of the Flame Motif
Another victory added to the long list of successful bespoke mosaic installations.
Once the design pattern, materials and hues were in place, production was started. Hand-cut glass was the material of choice for its durability and quality.
The crafting of this mosaic was a little different in the sense that there weren’t any exact shades for a certain piece of the motif.
The artisans went with the flow, playing with the various shades of Orange, Red and Gold to produce the final artwork.
Black was selected as the shade for the background, which lightened to Grey and Slate in some areas too. The final mosaic looked like a magnificent play of colours interwoven with gold in some areas to bring a regal look to the confection.
The mosaic was prepared in sections on mesh sheets and then packaged for transport.

The initial ‘flame motif’ evolved into a cascading fire with a host of other design patterns in between for a discerning eye to see. This is where the real excitement of abstraction lies.
An abstract pattern may be turned in any direction and evolve to take up a hundred shapes and patterns. A different pattern to every beholder.
