Deep Blues and Starry Skies—Custom Shower Wall in England

Welcoming the beauty of the night sky indoors, we blended Martin’s favorite celestial designs to craft a unique and exclusive custom shower wall just for him. This mosaic artwork was all about intense, deep blue waves, bright stars, followed by a touch of golden sun. Martin’s bathroom was transformed into a relaxing retreat.
Client Brief
When MEC was contacted by Martin from England regarding his bathroom upgrade, a very specific vision was shared with us. After showing us his current bathroom, Martin told us that he wanted to incorporate some elegant green tiles on his side walls. To get things right, he was basically looking for a main feature wall that would perfectly blend with the green shade.
When Martin browsed through our Celestial designs online, two patterns caught his attention. He loved the “Eternal Universe Mosaic” and “The Radiant Night Sky Mural”. As MEC highly encourages creative freedom in terms of clients choosing designs according to their personal taste, we were very happy to merge both patterns to build a custom shower wall for Martin.
Inspiration Moodboard
The first step of the project was to create an inspiration moodboard. This step is important as it allows us to collaborate closely and exchange ideas. In this context, our aim was to combine the serenity of a starry night with the color tone of the green tiles in Martin’s bathroom.
Upon having a deeper look at the bright stars, beautiful blue oceans, and sunbursts, we were able to decide exactly how the room should look and feel. We had to make sure that the blue and green colors would complement each other rather than looking mismatched. This moodboard served as a very helpful guide for the final artwork to look impressive and authentic.
Design Development
Initial Sketches
Once we were very clear about our final vision, our team started working on the initial drawings.
The stars, sun, moon, and everything in between was sketched in a way that these details perfectly matched together. These sketches were then shared with Martin, who was satisfied with how they turned out. It was time to move onto the next stage now.
2D & 3D Visualizations
This part is genuinely exciting; this is where the design truly comes to life. After working with the 2D sketch layout as well as the 3D digital model of the artwork, it was time to translate all of that to a real design in a real room. This also meant that Martin would be able to properly picture shower wall artwork next to the green tiles. This phase of the project made Martin feel confident in terms of the color and size choice that was made.

Color Palette & Materials
Selecting the colors and finalising the materials was the highlight of this project. For the calming night sky, we blended vibrant turquoise with navy blue and subtle blue. Coming to the sun and the stars, ended up opting for shimmery gold and yellow.
These tones looked striking; our pieces are made from premium materials and are cut completely manually. For bathrooms, glass is honestly the best choice. This is because glass can effortlessly withstand water and dampness. In addition to this, it also interacts with natural sunlight in a beautiful manner throughout the day.

Once our digital plans got approved, the team at MEC got quite busy. Our highly skilled artisans carefully started hand-cutting every single piece of tile. During this period, we took many pictures and shared those updates with Martin, making sure that he felt fully included in this process, as it was his project. Watching the bright golden mosaic pieces come together, and the sun shining against the blue waves was so pleasing. We also made sure that the placement of the stars were exactly the same and how they wanted it to be.

Once the artwork was completed, the mosaics were divided into small sections and were then placed on a flexible mesh backing. These were then quickly delivered to England along with a very simple and clear guideline for easy installation. MEC made sure to stay in contact with Martin during the entire setup period. Martin was quite impressed by his new custom shower wall and we are so glad to know that.
