Moroccan-Style Luxury Home: Mosaic Pool & Indigo Wall Mural

A geometric pool interior paired with a mosaic feature wall, integrated into a contemporary villa layout.

“We decided on a ‘modern oasis’ theme, focusing on how to make the pool pop against the neutral stone walls and wooden decking”

Duration 6 Weeks (Concept to Fabrication)
Year 2026
Materials Turquoise Iridescent Glass, Cobalt and Cerulean Accent Tiles, and Natural Sandstone Coping

The project focuses on two installations within the same villa: a patterned courtyard pool and a feature wall within the powder room. Both were developed to sit cleanly within the architecture rather than stand apart from it.

Client Brief

The client referenced Moroccan tilework for this pool.

Traditional zellige was not suitable for a submerged application, so the brief shifted toward a system that could achieve a similar effect using durable materials.

This sits within a wider MEC pool sub-category inspired by North African geometry, an approach that has become particularly sought after by homeowners who want water surfaces to feel  culturally layered.

Recent commentary from architecture and design platforms such as ArchDaily and Ralston Architects highlights how luxury pool design in 2026 is increasingly treated as an extension of architectural planning rather than landscape decoration.

Inspiration Moodboard

We approached the exterior pool as a bold “Modern Oasis,” using expansive washes of turquoise and cobalt to contrast the arid landscape.

This narrative deepens inside the “Secret Paradise” powder room, where the broad strokes of the pool evolve into a detailed botanical mural.

This intentional repetition of color transforms the property into a continuous aesthetic experience, leading the eye from the expansive turquoise of the outdoor oasis to the intimate, jewel-toned depths of the indoor mural.

Design Development

Initial Sketches

The process began with a deep dive into the site’s geometry, focusing on how to transition from the sharp, linear architecture of the home to the fluid nature of a water feature.

2D & 3D Visualizations

To bridge the gap between concept and reality, we developed detailed 2D patterns and 3D renders that mapped out every individual tile placement for the botanical artwork.

Material for Mosaic Pool

Color Palette & Materials

We explored a range of glass densities and finishes, selecting iridescent tiles that would shift in appearance as the sun moved across the pool throughout the day.

Installation Photos

The courtyard architecture frames the pool, allowing the surface to shift with light throughout the day. The interior wall remains more static, acting as a defined feature within the space. This dynamic exterior is grounded by the surrounding earthy textures, where the rugged sandstone walls and warm timber decking provide a neutral canvas that allows the vibrant blues of the water to feel like a natural extension of the landscape.

“For the indoor piece, we had to solve for the lack of natural light; we switched to a denser, more pigment-heavy glass to ensure the botanical details didn’t get lost in the shadows”

Our work with pools covers the entire design spectrum, ranging from the classic, clean lines of standard geometric layouts to more unexpected, one-of-a-kind pool installations.

“”It was rewarding to see how the glass tiles finally reacted to the courtyard’s natural light cycle.”

We are also thrilled to announce that our journey with this client continues; we’ve just wrapped a second project that we will be debuting very soon. This upcoming feature highlights a stunning swirl-themed pool.

FAQs

Mosaics are a defining feature of luxury pool design in regions like Miami, Los Angeles, Scottsdale, and the Hamptons, where pools function as architectural statements rather than simple recreational spaces. They bring depth, movement, and visual identity to water surfaces, often becoming the central design feature of a property.

We approach each project as a bespoke installation, creating custom mosaic work that aligns with the architecture, landscape, and lifestyle of the space rather than relying on standard patterns.

Material selection is critical across North America due to varying conditions — from Florida’s humidity and salt exposure to New York’s freeze cycles and Arizona’s intense sun.

Common materials include vitreous glass mosaics for durability and UV stability, porcelain mosaics for strength and low absorption, and select natural stone for premium finishes where appropriate.

Each installation is engineered with climate in mind, using waterproof systems and finishes designed to withstand UV exposure, chemical treatment, and seasonal temperature changes without degradation.

In high-end regions such as Miami Beach, Beverly Hills, and Malibu, mosaics are often fully custom-designed to reflect the character of the property. This can include gradient water illusions, abstract artistic compositions, or nature-inspired themes that interact with light and water movement.

Every project is developed from concept to installation, ensuring the mosaic design integrates seamlessly with surrounding architecture, landscaping, and lighting conditions.

Current trends include ocean-inspired gradients that create a sense of depth, minimalist monochrome palettes for modern estates, metallic accents for reflective luxury effects, and highly personalized motifs such as estate branding or symbolic artwork.

There is also growing demand for seamless indoor-outdoor design continuity, where mosaic work extends visually from interior spa spaces into exterior pools.
