Peony Mosaic Art—A Custom Floral Masterpiece for a Washington Bathroom
Peonies, burgundy accents, and a designer’s vision—this custom mosaic tells the story of an evolving design process. Discover how every decision shaped the final piece, tile by carefully placed tile.
Every project has its own rhythm, shaped by ideas, conversations, and moments of discovery. When Tia Ortiz, a senior designer at Lifted Interiors, reached out about a mosaic for a client’s bathroom in Washington, DC, the process that followed was as much about collaboration as it was about craftsmanship.
What began as an interest in a floral design evolved into something uniquely tailored to her client’s space. Along the way, we navigated feedback, adjusted colors mid-production, and worked together to create a gorgeous peony mosaic wall feature.
Where It All Began—Roses to Peonies
Tia initially considered the “White Rose” mosaic from our catalog—a piece known for its classic elegance and clean lines. But as she worked with her client, new ideas began to take shape. She shared an inspiration image (as shown above) that became the foundation for a custom version of the mosaic, blending floral themes with a slightly bolder, warmer palette.
Listening, Adjusting, and Perfecting the Design
As we moved into fabrication, Tia remained deeply involved, reviewing moodboards, tile samples, and early progress photos. Each detail mattered, and this approach gave her the opportunity to make adjustments along the way.
One particular detail stood out early in production: the centers of the flowers didn’t feel quite right.
“I think the centers of the flowers are too brown. Can we adjust this to a deeper burgundy color?” she asked in an email.
This wasn’t a small change. It required revisiting the palette and swapping out tiles already in place. But for us, that’s part of the process—every mosaic evolves as clients share their thoughts, and Tia’s feedback was integral to making the design feel complete.
The Burgundy Adjustment
To address Tia’s request, we reworked the flower centers with richer burgundy tones. Once the updates were complete, we sent her photos of the changes for approval. Her response showed just how impactful a small adjustment can be:
“The mosaic looks beautiful! Thank you for making the adjustment to the centers—it’s all good to go.”
Moments like this capture why we prioritize flexibility in our process. It’s not just about delivering a product—it’s about ensuring that the final piece reflects the client’s vision down to the smallest detail.
Collaboration in Action
From start to finish, this project was defined by communication and teamwork. Tia’s involvement wasn’t just about providing feedback—it was about shaping the mosaic into something deeply personal.
Throughout the process, we kept her connected through regular updates. Photos showing the evolving design, from moodboards to final adjustments, gave her the confidence that every detail was coming together as planned. When Tia suggested changes, like the switch to burgundy tones, we embraced them because they added to the mosaic’s impact.
It’s this kind of collaboration that transforms a design into something more than just decoration.
The Final Touches
Once Tia approved the revised design, we carefully prepared the mosaic for delivery. The wall mural was installed in the client’s bathroom a few weeks later. Shortly afterward, Tia shared how it had turned out:
That’s the kind of collaboration we strive for—a partnership that leads to something truly unforgettable.
