Luxury Residence Makeover: Bringing Bathroom, Vanity & Poolside to Life with Bespoke Mosaics

A multi-room narrative featuring four handcrafted mosaic installations, from bright seascapes to hyper-realistic wildlife, designed for a luxury private estate.

“This project was about world-building. We wanted the homeowner to feel like they were stepping into a different climate with every room.”

We recently wrapped up an expansive project for a private residence where we created 4 distinct environments that feel like an immersive experience.

We worked closely with the homeowners to ensure that the transition from a serene, floral-draped sanctuary to a wild, untamed jungle felt like a natural progression of their personal style.

Client Brief

The goal was to move beyond the traditional idea of tiling as a background element and instead treat every wall as a primary narrative, namely:

1. Poolside ocean horizons built with soft gradients in a calm, coastal palette.
2. Botanical mosaics with dense foliage in rich, natural tones.
3. Jungle scenes with animals embedded within deeper, contrasting layers, part of immersive jungle motifs in our Wildlife & Jungle Design Catalog.
4. Narrative mosaics in a flat graphic style with a warm, earthy palette, South-Asian inspired.

Bringing the Brief to Life: Cultural Storytelling in Mosaic

As you move along the bathroom’s mosaic walls, having just taken in the dynamic animals, like the tiger and white heron hidden among lush jungle motifs, the adjacent wall introduces the cultural narrative. This South Asian-inspired section becomes the storytelling centerpiece.

Key highlights of this mosaic include:

  • Crafted to harmonize with the golden hardware fixtures, achieving a cohesive and elegant look.
  • Paired with soft natural stone at the vanity area, balancing intricate artwork with tactile comfort.
  • The narrative subtly interacts with the jungle animals and botanical themes along the wall.

Positioned just next to the animated animal scenes, this mosaic transforms the bathroom into a layered visual journey, where each wall tells its part of the client’s curated story.

Design Development

Initial Sketches

Our designers created a presentation with multiple “levels” of detail. For the wildlife, we provided close-up sketches of the Tiger’s eyes and the Leopard’s spots to show how the tile placement would create a sense of movement.

2D & 3D Visualizations

We created 2D elevations and 3D renderings to show how the arched pool murals would interact with the water’s reflection. These visuals helped the client understand the scale.

Color Palette & Materials

We experimented with various glass finishes. For the floral mural, we leaned toward an iridescent palette that would shimmer under bathroom lighting. For the pool, we chose UV-resistant, non-slip glass to ensure the vibrant blues wouldn’t fade over years of sun exposure.

Amalfi Coast Inspired Pool Area Mosaics

Continuing the journey, the mosaic experience extends to the pool area, where three panels come together to depict a sweeping Amalfi Coast landscape, further unifying the home’s artistic vision. The design continues beneath your feet with the custom mosaic pool floor, creating a cohesive visual journey from wall to water.

Every element of this project reflects our end-to-end approach to custom mosaics:

  • Digital to physical: From initial digital renderings to hand-assembly in our workshop, each section was carefully crafted.
  • Precision shipping: Panels were shipped in custom-mapped sections designed to fit seamlessly together.
  • On-site guidance: Detailed installation guides and direct technical oversight for local contractors ensured a flawless finish.

The result is a flawlessly integrated mosaic environment where the Amalfi Coast scenery on the wall blends effortlessly with the vibrant pool floor.

“We really wanted the Amalfi Coast to feel alive, like you’re standing on the cliff looking out at the sea. Placing each tile so the waves and colors flowed naturally was tricky, but it made the whole scene come together beautifully.”

— Design Team

These behind-the-scenes moments reveal the precision and artistry required to shape thousands of tesserae into a continuous, fluid composition. Each cut, placement, and transition was executed by hand to ensure perfect flow across every pool surface.

Final Installed Photos

We wanted each space to feel like its own little sanctuary, but with details—like the gold fixtures and mosaic accents—that tie everything together in a luxurious, thoughtful way

— Client

When the final panels were installed, the transformation was total. The client was particularly moved by the heritage mural, noting how the hand-cut stones captured the dignity of the figures and animals.

Looking back, this project was a wonderful reminder that great design rarely happens in a straight line. It evolves through conversations, technical problem-solving, and a shared passion for craftsmanship. The Private Residence project reflects that spirit—transforming a home into a lasting masterpiece.

Could a custom mosaic be the permanent luxury upgrade your home deserves?

Most interior designers in the USA consider a custom mosaic to be a "permanent art installation." Unlike wallpaper that a new buyer might want to tear down, a high-quality stone or glass mural is viewed as an architectural upgrade, similar to a custom fireplace or high-end flooring. It adds a unique, "one-of-a-kind" luxury feel to the home that stays relevant for decades.

FAQs

Yes, absolutely. We use specific types of glass and natural stone that are “frost-proof.” This means they won’t crack or pop off the wall when the temperature drops below freezing during a New York winter. Because the materials are natural, they handle the expansion and contraction caused by changing weather much better than ceramic tiles or painted wood.

We don’t believe in “one size fits all.” Every project starts with a precise digital blueprint of your exact wall dimensions. Whether you are tiling a small backsplash in a California kitchen or a massive 20-foot garden wall in Texas, we scale the artwork so that no important details—like a bird’s wing or a flower bud—get cut off at the edges.

While any professional tile setter can technically install a mosaic, we provide a “installation map” that makes the process much easier. Each section of the mural is numbered and labeled. We’ve helped homeowners across the USA, from Florida to Washington, coordinate with their local contractors to ensure the “invisible transitions” between sections look perfect.

Mixing textures is actually one of our favorite things to do. By using a matte marble for a tree trunk and a shimmering iridescent glass for the leaves, we create a 3D effect. In sunny states like Arizona, this looks incredible because the sunlight hits the glass bits and makes the mural “glow” while the stone stays soft and natural.
