Intricate eight-pointed star modules against a rich Rosso Laguna backdrop. This handcrafted continuous marble mosaic pattern can be customized to fit just about any flooring space. | Available in polished, tumbled or honed finish.
The fundamental structure of the “Burge Cross” pattern involves interlocking cross shapes, often formed by larger sections of color or distinct arrangements of tesserae. These crosses serve as the primary framework, and the spaces between their arms are filled with other repeating elements. Notably, star-like formations emerge at the intersections of the crosses, adding another layer of geometric complexity to the design. These stars often feature a central point from which multiple arms radiate outwards, creating a dynamic visual link between the crosses.
The color palette of the “Burge Cross” mosaic includes a harmonious blend of contrasting and complementary hues. We observe prominent use of a rich burgundy or deep red marble to define the cross shapes and certain elements within the star formations. This bold color is often juxtaposed with lighter tones of beige, cream, and soft grey marble, which fill the background areas and form the stylized floral or paisley motifs. Additionally, there appear to be subtle accents of a muted green or olive marble, adding further depth and visual interest to the overall composition. The variation in color helps to delineate the different geometric and organic elements within the repeating pattern.
The shape of the design is inherently geometric, driven by the interlocking crosses and star formations. However, the inclusion of the smaller, stylized floral or paisley-like motifs introduces a softer, more organic counterpoint to the rigid geometry. These curved shapes are often contained within triangular or diamond-shaped spaces created by the intersecting crosses and stars. The irregular shapes of the individual tesserae contribute to the textured appearance of the mosaic, preventing the geometric pattern from feeling too stark or mechanical. The repeating nature of the design allows it to expand across a floor, creating a visually engaging and intricate surface.

I’m the owner of LP & Co., an interior design firm. For a client’s primary bathroom, we partnered with MEC on a starburst design in blues and purples. They were great to work with, and the final piece is truly stunning—photos don’t do it justice. Highly recommend MEC.

Living and working in Belize, I was thrilled to discover MECART! They transformed a Geoff McFetridge design into a stunning 20×20 ft mosaic for my pool, featuring four women diving in vintage swimwear—a true Art Deco masterpiece. Thank you, Saad and Nada, for making this dream both possible and affordable!
