Eubea Bruno Roman Mosaic Floor

Roman marble mosaic motif made manually with hand chopped natural stone tiles. Eubea features scrolls, leaves and a checkered marble border.

The focal point is a stylized palmette motif, a common decorative element in classical architecture and art. This central design is set against a dark background and framed by geometric borders.

Central Palmette Motif

• Shape: The central design is a stylized palmette, resembling a fan-like arrangement of elongated, pointed leaves or petals emanating from a central base. Below the fan, two symmetrical, spiraling tendrils extend outwards and upwards, terminating in smaller, curled elements.
• Color: The palmette and its tendrils are rendered in a light-colored marble, likely off-white or a light beige. This light hue stands out dramatically against the darker background, creating a strong visual focus.
• Detailing: The individual tesserae within the palmette are carefully arranged to follow the contours of the leaves and spirals, adding a sense of organic flow to the stylized form. Subtle variations in the light-colored marble may be present, adding depth and texture.

Background

• Color: The background of the mosaic is predominantly a dark color, possibly black or a deep brown marble. This dark backdrop serves to accentuate the light-colored palmette and the geometric borders.
• Texture: The background is composed of small, regularly sized tesserae, creating a uniform and slightly textured surface that contrasts with the smoother, flowing lines of the central motif.

Geometric Borders

• Inner Border: Immediately surrounding the dark background is a thin border of the same light-colored marble as the palmette. This light border provides a clear separation between the central design and the outer, more elaborate border.
• Outer Border: The outermost visible borders on the left and right sides feature a repeating geometric pattern. This pattern consists of alternating squares of the light-colored marble and the dark background marble, arranged in a checkerboard or step-like fashion. This creates a visually dynamic frame for the central palmette.
• Linear Elements: Thin lines of the light-colored marble run parallel to the edges of the mosaic, further defining the borders and adding to the overall geometric structure of the design.
