About the mosaic design: ALENTE | Handcrafted glass mosaic tile art inspired by blue and white azulejo tiles. Azulejo tiles are beautiful glazed porcelain tiles that can be often seen in Portuguese public spaces and residential buildings. MEC wanted to capture the enchanting and serene effect of azulejo tiles in a the mosaic medium.
Our designer researched and studied the Portoguese tiles (that are also related to Moroccan zellige tiles) to create an original new pattern. As a reference the design team considered a variety of elements from different azulejo tiles and played around with them to reach a design that worked best.
