A Tale of Two Walls: Water Lily Koi Pond Mosaic
When Kirsten Burton approached us with her vision of a tranquil koi pond mosaic for a bathroom project in Louisville Ohio, we knew this project would be special. Burton’s goal was to transform two opposing walls in a bathroom into a serene aquatic scene, featuring soft pastel colors and intricate details. Here’s the journey of how this beautiful mosaic came to life.

The Initial Vision
Burton found inspiration from our existing Koi Fish Mosaic Wall, a vibrant and intricate design featuring koi fish gliding through pond plants in turquoise blue waters. This initial design was rich in vibrant, saturated colors and different foliage, creating a lively and dynamic scene. However, Burton envisioned a more muted palette for her project, with soft pastel earth tones to create a calming ambiance.
“Here is one example of the color scheme which I tend to like. Perhaps even lighter shades of these colors, or versions of this palate, and playing up the light as it hits the water even more from above would be terrific,” Burton shared in her customization notes.

Digital Renderings and 3D Visualizations
To help Burton visualize the final design, we provided digitally rendered mosaic designs and 3D visualizations of the bathroom. This step was crucial in ensuring that the mosaic would perfectly complement the space.

Customizing the Design
Burton’s customization requests included tweaking the aquatic plant and foliage elements, removing some and adding others, like water lilies. She also specified changes to the koi fish colors, opting for blue and pink hues with subtle lighting effects.
“For the foliage design, I am not able to complete any edits to the drawings just now, but will try on the plane,” Burton mentioned. Despite the initial vagueness, we worked closely with her to ensure every detail matched her vision.

The Handcrafted Process
Our skilled craftsmen began the meticulous process of handcrafting the mosaic, using a blend of Murano glass and Vertex glass. Each piece was carefully cut and placed to create the serene scene Burton desired. Throughout the production, we kept Burton updated with images, allowing her to request tweaks even at this stage.

Final Adjustments and Completion
One notable change during production involved a koi fish initially colored peach, which Burton later requested to be more pink. We made the adjustment without hesitation, ensuring her satisfaction with the final product.
